Electropolishing, Passivation & Oxygen Cleaning in Houston, Texas
If your parts are in the Houston area, they don't need to leave Texas. Harrison Electropolishing has run a full-service metal finishing facility at 13002 Brittmoore Park Drive, in northwest Houston off Beltway 8, since 1980. Electropolishing, chemical passivation, pickling, oxygen cleaning, and mechanical polishing are all done in-house, under one ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality system. For installed equipment that can't come to us, our field crews perform passivation and cleaning on-site at plants across the Gulf Coast.
Several national finishing companies advertise "electropolishing for Houston." What that means in practice is you crate your parts, ship them to Chicago or California, wait for the work and the return freight, and hope nothing is damaged in transit. For a one-off part that may be fine. For a plant with a turnaround window, a fabricator with a delivery date, or a pharma project with a validation deadline, it isn't.
What we do here
Electropolishing — Stainless steel (304, 316L, duplex), Hastelloy, nickel alloys, titanium, and AL6XN, to ASTM B912 and ASME BPE SF4 through SF6. Tanks, vessels, piping, fittings, valve bodies, manifolds, machined components, and conveyor belts. Our electropolishing capacity handles parts up to 15,000 lb, with four overhead cranes and four full-time electropolishing lines in a 25,000 sq ft facility.
Chemical passivation — Nitric and citric acid passivation to ASTM A967, ASTM A380, and AMS 2700, with in-house verification testing and certificates of conformance. In-shop or on-site.
Pickling — Removal of weld scale, heat tint, and embedded iron from stainless fabrications before passivation.
Oxygen cleaning — Cleaning and verification of valves, piping, regulators, and vessels for oxygen-enriched service to ASTM G93 and CGA G-4.1, with clean-room packaging.
Mechanical polishing — #4, #8, and mirror finishes on stainless steel and aluminum, in-shop or on-site, including field polishing of installed vessels.
Who we serve on the Gulf Coast
The Houston Ship Channel corridor is the densest concentration of petrochemical and refining capacity in the country, and much of what runs through it depends on stainless and nickel-alloy equipment that has to resist chlorides, acids, and heat. We've been passivating and polishing that equipment for local plants for more than four decades.
Our Gulf Coast work includes:
- Petrochemical and refining — heat exchangers, reactor internals, piping spools, and storage vessels for plants in Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte, Baytown, Channelview, Texas City, Freeport, and Beaumont/Port Arthur.
- Pharmaceutical and biotech — ASME BPE electropolishing and de-rouging for manufacturers and contract fabricators in the Houston, Woodlands, and Texas Medical Center corridor.
- Semiconductor and ultra-high-purity gas — electropolished and oxygen-cleaned components for UHP gas systems.
- Aerospace — AMS 2700 passivation and electropolishing for suppliers to the Houston-area space and aviation industry.
- Oil & gas and marine — subsea and topside stainless and alloy components, and marine equipment through the Port of Houston and Galveston.
- Fabricators and machine shops — the metal finishing step for shops across Houston, Sugar Land, Katy, Conroe, and The Woodlands who need certified passivation or electropolishing on customer parts.
Why local matters for finishing work
Turnaround. Because there's no cross-country freight on either end, door-to-door is often a week or more faster than shipping out of state. Tell us your deadline when you request a quote and we'll confirm turnaround.
Handling. Electropolished and oxygen-cleaned surfaces are only as good as their handling after processing. Parts finished here are packaged for local pickup or delivery, not crated for a 1,000-mile trip.
Site visits. Engineers and QA staff are welcome to come see the process, witness testing, or inspect parts before release. That's a 30-minute drive, not a plane ticket.
On-site service. For vessels, piping systems, and equipment that's already installed, our field crews bring passivation and mechanical polishing to your plant. Typical on-site jobs include passivation of new stainless piping before commissioning, de-rouging and re-passivation of pharmaceutical vessels, and field polishing of tank interiors.
Certification. Every job ships with a certificate of conformance to the specified standard. Our quality system is registered to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, and we maintain full traceability from receipt to release.
Standards we work to
ASTM A967 and A380 (passivation) · AMS 2700 (aerospace passivation) · ASTM B912 (electropolishing) · ASME BPE (bioprocess surface finish) · ASTM G93 and CGA G-4.1 (oxygen cleaning)
For a plain-language guide to what each of these requires, see our industry standards reference.
About Harrison Electropolishing
Harrison Electropolishing was founded in Houston in 1980 and remains family-owned. Tom Harrison serves on the ASME BPE Surface Finish Subcommittee, which writes the surface-finish requirements the bioprocess industry builds to. We work from a single 25,000 sq ft facility in northwest Houston, expanded and updated in 2021, with a Class 1000 cleanroom for oxygen-service packaging.
