Tom Harrison, Founder and CEO of Harrison Electropolishing

Tom Harrison

  • Founder & CEO

Tom Harrison is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Harrison Electropolishing, the Houston company he started in 1980 to provide electropolishing, passivation, oxygen cleaning and mechanical polishing to manufacturers in semiconductor, pharmaceutical, biotech, aerospace and energy. With more than 45 years in precision surface finishing, he serves on the ASME Bioprocessing Equipment (BPE) Surface Finish subcommittees that write the standards high-purity manufacturers specify to.

Role at Harrison Electropolishing

Tom founded Harrison Electropolishing in Houston, Texas in 1980 and has led it since. Under his direction the company grew from a single process line into a 25,000-square-foot facility with four electropolishing lines, nitric and citric passivation lines, an ISO Class 6 (Class 1000) cleanroom, and ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified quality and environmental systems. The company is family-owned and employs more than 50 people, and it remains a trusted finishing partner for manufacturers across Texas and the United States.

Standards and industry work

Tom serves on multiple American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Bioprocessing Equipment (BPE) Surface Finish subcommittees. ASME BPE is the standard that pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturers specify for the surface finish of product-contact stainless steel, so the work of those subcommittees defines what terms like SF1 through SF6 mean in practice and how electropolished surfaces are measured and accepted. He has also served on the board of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE). That standards work shapes how Harrison Electropolishing quotes, processes and documents every ASME BPE job.

The Harrison C-75 process

In 1980 Tom developed Harrison C-75, the company's proprietary polishing process for reducing product adhesion and buildup on process equipment. It remains one of the company's signature services for conveyor belts, screws, valves and other components where sticking product slows production or complicates cleaning.

Community

Outside the business, Tom has volunteered with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for more than 30 years and was honored as a Lifetime Director. He supports the Houston SPCA, Champions Kids Camp and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Educational Fund, among other charitable organizations.
