Stainless Steel Passivation
From PH grades to 300, 400 and 500 series, stainless steel is available in any number of varieties. At Harrison Electropolishing, we have provided a stainless steel passivation process of all steel grades at our Houston headquarters and at our customers’ locations around the world since 1980.
Passivation improves stainless steel’s corrosion resistance, which can be compromised by the presence of exogenous surface contaminants, including grease, dirt, iron and other mechanical particles inherent in the metal fabrication process. Passivation of stainless steel includes chemically treating the surface with a mild oxidant, removing free iron and other particles and encouraging the formation of a chromium-rich corrosion-resistant layer.
